Safe, reliable and affordable options get every boy to school on time, whether by bike, bus or further afield.
Bicycling/Scooters/Skateboards
Many students ride to school, enjoying fresh air and independence. New Zealand road rules apply: approved helmets are compulsory, and high-visibility gear is recommended.
Students who bring scooters or bikes to school should place them in the designated bike compound located in the south-end car park next to the Technology block and ensure they are securely locked. Students are responsible for their own locks and security.
Please note that skateboards are not permitted on school grounds.
Busing to School
Dedicated WBHS buses, operated by Ritchies Transport, service Whangārei and surrounding rural areas, with the southernmost pick-up at Maungakaramea. Areas further south (Waipū, Ruakākā, Bream Bay) are covered by Leabourn Passenger Services, and Dargaville is serviced by Te Wai Ora Coach Line.
Free Ministry-funded transport is available for eligible students living more than 4.8 km from their nearest school. Students who are not eligible or out-of-zone can pay $3 per trip or purchase a 10-trip concession ($25) from the driver.
WBHS students can also connect with Te Kamo High School bus routes. Students in Kamo and Hikurangi must use their regular service. Please note that students using the Te Kamo network must pay for each bus used. 10-trip tickets for these buses are available from either school office.
Full route maps and timetables are explained at the Term 1 bus assembly, which all new bus users are required to attend.
