Basketball Academy
The WBHS Basketball Academy supports the development of young athletes through specialist coaching, competitive opportunities, and a strong focus on attitude and personal growth. Recent years have seen students achieve success at a national level, with emerging players progressing through regional and national pathways. Former student Tukaha Cooper, now part of the Breakers programme, remains a strong example of what is possible through commitment and hard work.
Cricket Academy
The Cricket Academy focuses on skill development, game awareness, and teamwork. In 2025, the Year 9/10 team claimed the Russ Glackin Tournament, defeating strong competition from Westlake Boys’ High School and Rosmini College. The academy continues to develop competitive Northland cricketers, with players such as Rafe Fleming-Bone and Josh Laing progressing through representative pathways.
Football Academy
The WBHS Football Academy provides structured coaching in technical skill, tactical understanding, and physical preparation. Our teams regularly perform strongly in Northland secondary school competitions, with recent success in Term 1 tournaments. The academy supports the holistic development of players such as Nico Reynolds and Aiden Killeen, while maintaining a strong tradition of competitive football at WBHS.
Golf Academy
The WBHS Golf Academy is widely recognised as one of Northland’s leading secondary school programmes. Students receive high-level coaching and access to competitive opportunities nationally and internationally. Recent achievements include world title success and a 13th-place finish at the 2025 New Zealand Secondary Schools Finals. Alumni success on the Asia-Pacific stage reflects the strength and consistency of the programme.
Hockey Academy
The Hockey Academy develops technical skill, tactical awareness, and endurance. In 2025, the WBHS 1st XI competed at the Rankin Cup, building on the Olympic Stick Trophy win in 2023. The academy also celebrates individual milestones, including multiple 100-game players, and continues to contribute strongly to Northland hockey pathways.
Rugby Academy
Rugby is a cornerstone of WBHS’s sporting tradition. The Rugby Academy focuses on physical preparation, game intelligence, teamwork, and character. In 2025, WBHS achieved national recognition by winning the NSSS Condor Sevens as underdogs, led by Head Boy Brock Reid, now a New Zealand representative. The 1st XV also claimed the Northland regional title following a historic draw with Westlake Boys’ High School. These achievements reflect both performance excellence and collective resilience.
Squash Academy
The Squash Academy develops speed, strategy, and a competitive mindset. In 2025, the WBHS team won the Ross Norman Plate at the New Zealand Secondary Schools Championships, finishing ninth overall. This builds on national title success in 2022 and 2023, with students continuing to progress into national junior squads.
Sailing Academy
The WBHS Sailing Academy provides students with opportunities to compete at regional and national regattas while developing resilience, teamwork, and self-management. In 2025, the team placed second overall nationally, continuing a strong tradition of high performance and camaraderie on and off the water.
Table Tennis Academy
The Table Tennis Academy supports both participation and performance, with growing numbers of students involved. In 2025, 95 students competed in the Novice Tournament, reflecting the strength and accessibility of the programme. Success in regional competitions and awards such as the Potter and Profit Challenge Cups highlights continued development across year levels.
Tennis Academy
The WBHS Tennis Academy focuses on technical development, match play, and competitive readiness. In 2024–2025, WBHS teams dominated the Northland Secondary School Year 9/10 Doubles Tournament, winning both semi-finals and finals. The academy continues to foster skilled, competitive players within a positive and supportive environment.
