Leading Your Learning
By Year 13, students typically select five subjects and take greater ownership of their learning. They drive their own pathways, set endorsement targets, and often incorporate work-based learning or tertiary courses. At this stage, most have a firm grasp, or are very close to making a serious choice as to their future goals, whether that’s university, vocational training, apprenticeships, or direct entry into the workforce, while a few continue to explore emerging opportunities.
As of Year 13 is the culmination of growing responsibility. Boys construct light, focused timetables with study periods, often leaving early or arriving late around external commitments. Teaching is university-style: self-directed inquiry, leadership of discussions and deep extension work. Many sit Scholarship exams, complete industry qualifications or balance part-time jobs. Prefects and senior leaders model maturity while supporting younger students, completing the journey from guided Year 9 learner to confident, capable school leaver.
