First Real Choices
In your 9 and 10 students prepare themselves for the rigours of Senior School Life. Therefore, in year 11, each student is required to complete English and Mathematics pathways, but boys now select four or five option subjects, shaping their own NCEA Level 1 programme.
Responsibility grows significantly. With guidance from Whānau teachers and Deans, students design a balanced course that matches interests, strengths and future goals.
Classes become more student-driven, with inquiry projects and self-directed elements.
Achievement or Unit Standards, vocational pathways and Gateway options appear for the first time. Boys manage deadlines across multiple subjects and learn to balance workload, which is essential preparation for the independence of Years 12 and 13.
