Enrolment

Domestic Enrolments

Here is a straightforward, step-by-step guide to enrolling your son at WBHS:

Step One: Prepare your documents

Before you start, it’s best to prepare your paperwork.

Documents you will need:

  • Proof of Identity: Birth Certificate or Passport.
  • Proof of Address: A utility bill (power, water), rates bill, or tenancy agreement.
  • Academic Record: Your son’s latest school report.
  • Additional Documents (if applicable):
    • Passport, student visa, and parent work permits (if not a NZ resident).
    • Any court orders for custody or guardianship.

Step 2: Complete the online application form

Fill out the online enrolment form on the WBHS website.

Please note: Submitting the form does not mean your son is enrolled. It is the first part of the application process.

Step 3: Attend the enrolment interview

For 2027 Year 9 enrolments, you will be sent a link to book an interview time from Wednesday 12th August to Friday 14th August 2026.

For mid-year enrolments for 2026, someone will be in touch to schedule and interview time.

Step 3: Confirm your zone

Check the home zone boundaries on the website to understand your enrolment rights.

Any questions about this process please call the main office on 09 430 4170.

Out-of-Zone Enrolments for 2027

The board invites applications from parents and caregivers who wish to enrol their students at Whangārei Boys’ High School for 2027.

Enrolment at the school is governed by an enrolment scheme, details of which are available on our school website.

All applications are to be submitted through our online application form, which can be accessed from our website.

The deadline for completed applications for out-of-zone places is 3 September 2026.  Parents and caregivers of students who live within the home zone should also apply by this date to assist the school to plan appropriately for 2027.

The board has determined that 175 Year 9 places, 20 Year 10 places, 10 Year 11 places, 10 Year 12 places and 10 Year 13 places are likely to be available for out-of-zone students next year.

If the number of out-of-zone applications exceeds the number of places available, students will be selected by ballot.  If a ballot is required, it will be held on 9 September 2026.  Parents and caregivers will be informed of the outcome within three school days of the ballot.
