You can apply to enrol at WBHS through our online form below. Filling out the form is not a confirmation of acceptance onto the school roll. Copies of the following are required for the enrolment to proceed:
- Copy of Birth Certificate/Passport
- Evidence of address i.e. rates, tenancy agreement, water/power bill (it needs to be a bill for a service to the property or similar)
- Copy of latest school report
- If you do not have NZ residency we will need to sight passports, student visa, and work permit documentation
- Documentation for any custody or other court arrangements

Any student currently enrolled at Whangārei Boys’ High School will not be impacted by the new enrolment scheme. All students enrolled (and attending school) will be entitled to continue attending Whangārei Boys’ High School, irrespective of where they currently live.

The establishment of the enrolment scheme and home zone will affect all enrolments starting at the beginning of Term 1, 2025. This includes current families who have a younger sibling looking to enrol at Whangārei Boys’ High School starting on 1 January 2025 (the commencement date) or later. The flowchart to the right will help you assess your indicative eligibility to enrol after the commencement date. If you are out of zone, you need to go in the ballot, this can be prioritised in the categories indicated in blue.
Home Zone Pt 1
Home Zone
All students who live within the home zone described below shall be eligible to enrol at the school.
- The zone starts at the Kamo Road/Burling Ave intersection and travels east along Burling Ave to Te Rauponga/State Highway 1. Turn north along Te Rauponga/State Highway 1 and turn east just before Puna Rere Drive (not including Puna Rere Drive addresses) to include all addresses along Jack Street, Miro Street and William Jones Drive.
- From William Jones Drive, turn left onto Rata Place and then onto Rata Lane, and onto Cairnfield Road (Tawa Place and Jane Nelson Place addresses are included).
- Follow Cairnfield Road to the intersection with Waiatawa Road (all Waiatawa Road addresses are included up to the intersection with Kiripaka Road). Millers Lane addresses are included.
- Travel east along Whareora Road from the Waiatawa Road intersection to the intersection with Mt Tiger Road (includes all side roads running off Whareora Road i.e., Hakawai Lane, Koromiko Lane, Clapham Road; Quarry Road; Fantail Lane; Giovanni Drive; Bonetti Rise).
- Travel south down Mt Tiger Road and continue along Owhiwa Road (all Owhiwa Road addresses are included) to Whangarei Heads Road.
- Turn left onto Whangarei Heads Road and then turn left onto Taraunui Road and travel north to Telfer Road (to include Rukuwai Road, Lakelands Road, Awa Way and Waiparera Road).
- From Telfer Road down to the Pataua River mouth. The zone travels along the south side of the river mouth to include the Pataua South settlement.
Home Zone Pt 2
- From here the zone follows the coastline to include all settlements from Taiharuru south to Bream
- Head and around to Whangarei Heads, Parua Bay and Tamaterau.
- The zone then travels west along Whangarei Heads Road and turns right onto Onerahi Road and includes the Whangarei Airport and surrounds (Church Street, Weir Crescent and all adjoining streets/roads).
- The zone travels north along Onerahi Road and across the causeway onto Riverside Drive (with addresses on all adjoining roads/streets included).
- Follow Riverside Drive along to Victoria Bridge, and then turn left at the roundabout and travel south-east along the Twin Coast Discovery Highway/Dent Street and on to Herekino Street (including all addresses on Reyburn House Lane). At the roundabout, turn left onto Port Road and follow Port Road to Kioreroa Road. All streets and roads in the Port area are included.
- Follow Kioreroa Road to Rewa Rewa Road and on to Otaika Road/State Highway 1. Turn left and travel south down State Highway 1 to include the Otaika; Puwera; and Oakleigh settlements up to and including Oakleigh Rise.
Home Zone Pt 3
- From here the zone stops and turns north to include Maungakaramea Road from the intersection with State Highway 1 to number 169 Maungakaramea Road. Follow State Highway 1 north to Loop Road.
- Turn left on Loop Road and turn left on Otaika Valley Road/State Highway 15. Includes all addresses on Valley View Road and adjoining roads.
- Follow Otaika Valley Road through to Maungatapere and turn left from Otaika Valley Road (SH 15) onto State Highway 14. The zone includes all addresses on Stunnell Road, Jersey Lane, Tavinor Road and Moorey Lane.
- Travel south along State Highway 14 to Snooks Road (Pukeatua Road, Jackson Road, Elmsley Road, Charles Walton Road, and Garden Hill Lane are in-zone.
- The zone turns left onto Snooks Road and follows through to Weke Road. Addresses for Roose Rise, Snooks Road up to 348 Snooks Road and Otuhi Road up to 417 Otuhi Road are included.
- From Weke Road turn left onto State Highway 14 and follow it south as far as 2065 State Highway 14.
Home Zone Pt 4
- The zone then turns back north along State Highway 14 and turns left onto Tatton Road. Addresses on Rocky Heights, Highland Way, Norris Road, Whatitiri Road up to the intersection with Woodward Road, the east side of Woodward Road, and Kohura Road are included.
- Follow Tatton Road to the intersection with Mangakahia Road with all addresses on Nisbet Road, Te Kowhai Drive, Cooper Road, and Stone Wall Rise included.
- The zone follows Mangakahia Road west up to 363 Mangakahia Road, and then turns back east along Mangakahia Road to the intersection with State Highway 14. Addresses for all roads accessing this section of Mangakahia Road are included.
Home Zone Pt 5
- The zone turns left and follows State Highway 14 north from Maungatapere to include Kokopu Block Road up to number 363 Kokopu Block Road, and Kara Road up to number 384/384A Kara Road. McKinley Road addresses from the intersection with Kara Road to number 125 McKinley Road and Kara Heights Rise addresses are included, as are addresses on Wood Road.
- The zone then stops and travels south back down Kara Road to the intersection with State Highway 14 and turns left to follow the State Highway towards Whangarei. All adjoining streets/roads running off Kara Road and State Highway 14 are in-zone.
- At Maunu, the zone follows Maunu Road/State Highway 14 and turns left onto Western Hills Drive/State Highway 1 up to the Kamo Road intersection. All addresses accessing this section of Western Hills Drive/SH 1 are in-zone. The zone then follows Kamo Road north to Burling Ave.
- Note that addresses on Percy St, Bedlington St, Beauzami Place, John McGill Place, and the south side of Whau Valley Road from Kamo Road up to 39 Whau Valley Road are in-zone.
