Sports Results – Term 2 Week 11 (Term 1) and Holidays

Pickleball
A group of Junior boys attended the NSSSA Pickleball event held at Te Ora Hou in Tikipunga on the last day of Term 1 and had a go playing against some very talented players.
Surfing
It was a fantastic day at Sandy bay last term for the Northland Scholastics Surfing trails. There were a total of 63 competitors and 10 schools were represented from Kaitaia to Albany.
Under 14 boys – Tai Piggot placed 4th
Under 16 boys – Indy Chave-Heffernan placed 2nd and Kobe Walker 4th
Under 18 boys – Cooper Ashill placed 1st, Reef Taylor 2nd and Rhyder
Harrington placed 4th.
Go-4-12
WBHS and WGHS team travelled to Hawkes Bay in the holidays to
compete in the 12 hour event. The Whangarei team placed 8th.
AFL
Isaac Brown is a member of the AFL New Zealand High Performance Academy this year and is set to play for New Zealand again in the South Pacific Cup at the end of the year, and has just been nominated for the
AFL New Zealand Player of the Year.
Squash
Zac Laing played in the NZ Junior Open U19 in Palmerston North and placed 16th overall.
He also attended the Oceania Open U15 in Australia and placed 9th overall. And 7th in the Australian U15 Open
Inter Whanau Rowing
The Inter Whanau Rowing challenge was held in the Gym with 70 boys competing in teams of 7, rowing for an hour as a team on a Concept 2 rower. After rowing for over 16km, first and second place teams were separated
by only 2 metres.
1st – Unaunahi
2nd – Mangopare
3rd – Kaokao
4th – Poutama
5th – Niho Taniwha
Hockey
WBHS 1st XI hockey team travelled to Hamilton to compete in the ANZAC
Hockey Tournament.
WBHS – 5 played St Andrews (Christchurch) – 0 (Win)
WBHS – 3 played Wellington College – 1 (Win)
WBHS – 5 played Hutt International – 0 (Win)
WBHS – 5 played St Peter’s College – 0 (Win)
WBHS – 3 played Hamilton Boys’ – 2 (Win)
Swimming
Ry Luff and Te Mana Atutolu attended the NZSS Age group Championships in Hawkes Bay in the holidays and Ry placed 10th in the 17-18 years 200m Fly. Te Mana placed 8th in the 50m Freestyle in the 16yr event.
Sailing
NZSS Sailing Nationals were held in New Plymouth and WBHS placed 12th overall.
Hockey – Reserve Men
WBHS – 10 played HoraHora – 0 (Win) – Round 1
WBHS – 0 played Maungakaramea – 5 (Loss) – Round 2
WBHS – BYE – Round 3
Rugby 1st XV
WBHS – 10 played Liston College – 22 (Loss)
WBHS – 45 played Matamata College – 12 (Win)
